Watch Cathy Thomas sample dishes at Knott’s Berry Farm's Boysenberry Festival

Boysenberries are such a cheery fruit, their tiny juice sacs snuggling side by side, the inky nectar within a luscious blend of deep sweet-tart flavors. Both the color and taste are prized in both savory and sweet dishes. A cross between raspberries, blackberries and loganberries (and perhaps other berries as well), boysenberries found fame due to the talent and hard work of Walter and Cordelia Knott – he farmed the fields and she whipped up homespun berry-centric pies and jams.

To honor the signature berries, Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival will offer a plethora of boysenberry “bites,” dishes and beverages that showcase the beguiling fruit.

I stopped by for a preview of some of the festival’s culinary offerings; here’s a taste of what I liked best and a list of the rest.
