Knott’s Boysenberry Festival opens Saturday, March 28

As a member of local media, I was invited to a special event introducing the array of “Boysenberry Bites” that will tempt visitors to Knott’s Boysenberry Festival to indulge themselves beginning on Saturday, March 28.

Boy oh boy oh boy was that every a fun special event!

The Wilderness Dance Hall was turned over to food stations featuring appetizers, main dishes, side dishes, and desserts — all tinged a bit purple from the signature color of boysenberries.

Yes, the boysenberry was indeed developed at Knott’s Berry Farm — and the Farm has been producing boysenberry preserves every since.

But these “Boysenberry Bites” will have you seeing purple in a whole new light.

Boysenberries are such a cheery fruit, their tiny juice sacs snuggling side by side, the inky nectar within a luscious blend of deep sweet-tart flavors. Both the color and taste are prized in both savory and sweet dishes. A cross between raspberries, blackberries and loganberries (and perhaps other berries as well), boysenberries found fame due to the talent and hard work of Walter and Cordelia Knott – he farmed the fields and she whipped up homespun berry-centric pies and jams.

To honor the signature berries, Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival will offer a plethora of boysenberry “bites,” dishes and beverages that showcase the beguiling fruit.

I stopped by for a preview of some of the festival’s culinary offerings; here’s a taste of what I liked best and a list of the rest.

Knotts Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival Returns!

Knott’s Berry Farm will once again celebrate its Boysenberry Festival March 28 – April 12 this year, encompassing Spring and Easter celebrations as well as the annual celebration of the little berry that started it all.

[...] Knott’s Bear-y Tales Interactive Pie Making. Kids (big kids too, I hope) can join the Bear-y Tales family and friends inside the Toy Barn (where several of the classic ride’s figures still perform), where they will learn about the process of how boysenberries become award-winning pie. They can also bake their very own boysenberry tart with crumble topping. We also learned that there will be TWO new Bear-y Tales t-shirts on sale during the event.

Steel Framing going up! New look is coming!

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Don't forget to visit the Bear-y Tales gang at the Boysenberry Festival!

Knott's News: Just wanted to remind everyone to stop by the Interactive Storybook Pie Kitchen during the Boysenberry Festival just 10 days from now. Knott's may very well be testing the waters for a Knott's Berry Tales comeback and it's in everyone's interest to make this a smashing success. I don't know what they have planned or how elaborate it will be but I encourage everyone to show their support regardless.

So...ya'll come have a ball!!!

Knotts Berry Farm Readies Boysenberry Festival

Today we take you to Knotts Berry Farm for the latest news and photos. A brand new family attraction, Voyage to the Iron Reef, is coming along in the Boardwalk area of the park. Teams of construction professionals and ride designers are racing around the clock to get the attraction ready for the planned May 15th opening. We next bring news of the return of the delightful Boysenberry Festival on March 28th. This party of food, entertainment, dancing and the Peanuts Gang is one of the major highlights of the year and we wouldn’t miss it for anything. Next we share some wonderful photos from around the park as they prepare for the upcoming festival and huge summer season for 2015. Finally we pay a little tribute to the entertaining Gunslingers that inhabit Ghost Town. Are you ready for some fun on the farm? Then let’s get to it!

Voyage to the Iron Reef ride vehicles are indeed one row four across

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Here is your first look at the ride vehicles for Voyage to the Iron Reef

Knott's News: I can't tell from the picture if it actually seats four across as suggested. I always thought it would be two in the front and two in the back, as in this picture:

It just seems like it'd be a little difficult to turn a Doombuggie into a submarine. Speaking of which, I have a feeling these cars are going to get a makeover by Knott's in-house crew to become the subs mentioned in the press release (they did an awesome job repainting the Calico Mine Ride trains). I'm going to assume thematic elements aren't part of what Art Engineering does, so they gave them the generic blue ride vehicles.

Raising the load platform on Iron Reef

Knott's New: Well the new steel beams indicate that they're raising the load platform, which would explain why they raised part of the overhead wall to coincide with that change. I suspect this is to accommodate the ride vehicles, which will surely be situated a little higher up off the ground then what was their before.
