In total, 26 interactive scenes feature added multi-sensory effects like wind and sound, hidden Easter eggs throughout and a grand on-stage musical finale with all cast members. Manufactured by Sally Dark Rides, the leader in indoor family dark ride experiences, Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare is a true nod to the original that made its home at Kings Island from 1992 – 2002.

Knott's News: Seriously guys. This was one of my home parks growing up and I've always wanted this to return. Full sets and animatronics to go with the interactive elements. It's what Knott's Bear-y Tales Return to the Fair should've been, not screens. I'm happy for King's Island.

I don't think this is the end for Bear-y Tales.
ReplyDeleteIf all does well with this new ride. I can see them revisit the Bear-y Tales. In fact, I have scoop that they were gonna plan to revisit it sometime after the Moontezooma's refurb.
But when the Merger happened. The priorities were shifted. Whether or not it will return at this point is unknown.
But I can tell you this. A few of the internal people at Entertainment (formally) does regret the choice they made with Return To The Fair.
They made the mistake of recognizing that fans wanted a Remake in the style of Garner Holt's work on the Timber Mountain Log Ride and Calico Mine Ride. Not a retread of the original ride as it was.
Thats what people wanted.
But because that ride system from Iron Reef was new and the contract obligations with Triotech. That too also put a wrench into the more ambitious plans of Bear-y Tales.
Lets cross fingers this Phantom Theater do-over does well. There is also talks that the Speelunker's Cave at Six Flags Over Texas is getting a fix up too. Lets also not forget that Knott's is doing that Crafty's Kitchen and the stuff last year with the Boysenberry Festival featuring the Bear-y Tales characters.
Its clear they haven't given up on Rolly Crump's ride.
So we can hope....
Always nice to hear from you Albert. I hope what you say is true and Knott's turns a corner.
ReplyDeleteRight now, Knott's has me nervous. Its seems like they can't finish anything they start ever since the Fiesta Village revamp and with the merger removing park level management, I fear they lost their champions. Knott's is such a special park and they seem forgotten about (the reason this site is soo quiet as there really isn't anything to report).
I'll be at Kings Island to check out the new Phantom Theater. I hope it does well for everyone's sake.
Me personally, I'd take a Sally designed Bear-y Tales. People give them grief for being budgeted but the original Bear-y Tales and Phantom Theater were extremely budgeted attractions that mainly shined through their personality. Retain that identity with something physically built and we should be golden.
