Knott's News: They should make themed ride safely videos and display them on these screens instead of advertising. Camp Snoopy safety videos would feature the Peanuts gang while rides in the Boardwalk area could have retro characters like Doofus and Do-Right, used on the Men in Black Alien Attack ride at Universal Orlando. Just something to think about...
Knott's News: Will it match the pavement found in the rest of Ghost Town or will it be the new dirt road themed pavement used throughout Camp Snoopy? We'll have to wait to find out but I think we can all agree, anything is an improvement over the plain old black asphalt they had there before. Way to step it up Knotts!!!
Knott's News: Some highlights include a look at the now down for renovation Grizzle Creek Lodge, new highquality restroom signs replacing the old temporary ones, a sneak peek at what will soon be the Peanuts Play Lot and the Fresh Food Stand, and much more.
Knott's Berry Farm, the granddaddy of American theme parks has roots that stretch back to 1920 when Walter and Cordelia Knott brought their young family to Buena Park to farm berries and vegetables. From humble beginnings, Walter gave the world the Boysenberry while Cordelia placed her famous fried chicken dinner on the table. Their family farm grew with popularity and Knott's Ghost Town was built in 1941 to entertain the crowds. This illustrated presentation traces Knott’s unprecedented and never duplicated growth from family farm into a full-fledged and inspiring theme park. Following the lecture is an hour of historical footage through (mostly) the mid-century decades.
Join us in the lobby, after the presentation, where co-author J. Eric Lynxwiler will sign his book "Knott's Preserved: From Boysenberry to Theme Park, the History of Knott's Berry Farm," and where we’ll have slices of Mrs. Knott’s delicious pies for sale!

Mind you, with what's being done to Calico Mine Train & Camp Snoopy looking like it's actually going to top the refresh / restoration work that was done on Ghost Town in 2012 & Timber Mountain Log Ride in 2013, what's Knott's Berry Farm going to do for an encore? Well, this theme park's creative crew & marketing team weren't exactly ready to go on-the-record. Not yet, anyway. But it's been suggested that Knott's Fiesta Village area may be the next part of this park to receive a makeover. One that will take its inspiration from LA's festive Olvera Street marketplace. But -- hey -- you didn't hear that from me.

Knott’s Berry Farm might have found the mother lode by mining existing rides with “like new” updates.
Last year the farm refreshed the Timber Mountain Log Ride by replacing nearly all the show elements, and refurbishing the ride track and other hardware systems. It was rewarded with long lines and according to reports, solid attendance.
This year the farm is doing the same thing but in a bigger way.
Here is a video of the animatronics Garner Holt Productions has designed and manufactured for the Calico Mine Train at Knott's Berry Farm.

Knott's News: For reference readers, Pirates of the Caribbean is said to have 68 humans and 54 animal animatronics. I've also heard 128 total. Eitherway, very exciting news indeed!
The animatronic miners were each labeled with masking tape bearing descriptive names like Dynamite Guy or Powder Man. A miner panning for gold knelt on one knee with outstretched arms. Another hoisted a bird cage that will hold a canary. A choreographed team of sawmen sliced through square-cut timber.
The most complex figures hold items that react to their body movements. My favorite: A miner whose head and arms moved as he pushed a wheelbarrow that rolled back and forth on a hidden track.

In all, the updated mine ride will have 50 new animatronic human figures and 100 new animatronic animals, including a donkey, bats, dogs, fish and canaries, said Bill Butler, creative director at Garner Holt Productions, which is building the figures. They will start to be installed as early as next week.
Most of the original animatronics were removed; a few will remain and get new movements, faces, hands and clothes.
The ride should also be smoother. The track on the chain lift has been replaced, and every train will have been stripped down and rebuilt. The park is aiming to reopen the Mine Ride in early summer.

Knott’s had a preview of their new stuff for 2014 yesterday and so we sent Dan to take pictures of said things like we do. What are these new things? Well, obviously the Calico Mine Ride is one of these things. The classic attraction, as we all know by now, is getting a massive redo courtesy of the awesome folks at Garner Holt Productions. And then we have the Camp Snoopy redo for its own 30th anniversary.
